A person’s health should be given top priority, and this includes your reproductive health. Women, who have problems conceiving on their own, together with their male partners, need to consult with a fertility specialist to establish the cause of their problem. Fortunately, a huge percentage of infertility problems are treatable through a range of infertility treatment techniques. Depending on the nature of your case, a Hysteroscopy surgery may be recommended.

What is hysteroscopy surgery?

It is a procedure used by doctors to check the lining of a patient’s uterus. The doctors normally use a thin viewing item known as hysteroscope, hence the name of this surgical procedure.  The tip of the viewing tool is usually inserted into the vagina and then moved gently through the cervix and into the uterus. A hysteroscope carries light and camera to enable the doctor to observe the endometrium lining on a video screen.

Why is hysteroscopy conducted?

This surgical procedure may be conducted to establish the cause of abnormal bleeding or the type of bleeding which occurs after a woman has entered the stage of menopause. It is also used to address the cases of infertility in women. If you are having problems getting pregnant, examination can be conducted to check if there is a problem in your uterus preventing you from conceiving.  Therefore, do not be surprised when your doctor mentions that he or she has to refer you for hysteroscopy surgery or conduct the process himself, most probably, this is the procedure you will be needed to undergo.

At other times, a woman usually has some growth in the uterus such as fibroids and polyps. Your doctor can use this procedure to have such uterus growth removed. In some instances, your doctor might take a sample of tissue; scientifically known as biopsy and have it looked under a microscope to determine problems. If you have an infertility problem, your doctor may recommend another surgery known as laparoscopy to have your problem treated.

Benefits of hysteroscopy surgery

Relative to other procedures that are more invasive, this procedure may give you a number of benefits depending on the nature of your problem. Firstly, since no one loves a long stay in the hospital, this procedure is obviously the best as you get a shorter stay in the hospital. Secondly, within a few days you will have recovered fully and ready to go on with your life. Lastly, hysteroscopy requires less medication for pain after the surgery.  If you are wondering about its safety, this procedure is relatively safe with less than 1% possibility of complications.
